THE INQUIRY QUESTION

Your inquiry question is "How can you create three marble runs from the same height but the marble travels at different speeds in each run?"

THE CHALLENGE

Your group challenge is to design three marble runs of the same height and width but the marble has to travel at a different speed for each one.  This is an assement task and you will be assessed individually so you need to read the Marking Rubric to ensure that you have completed all the criteria.  There will also be a class competion to find the fastest, the slowest and the most environmentally friendly marble run!

THE INSTRUCTIONS

Step One

Find the group you are working in and read the Instructions, Rules and Marking Rubric.

Step Two

Individually, draw detailed designs for your marble runs using your ipad.  Make sure you think about materials you will use and how you will attach materials together.  Also consider how environmentally friendly your materials are and if you could use a better alternative.

Step Three

Individually blog your ideas and reasons for your designs on your technology blog page.  Make sure you include reasons why you chose your materials and how environmentally friendly they are.

Step Four

Share your designs, ideas and blogs to the other members in your group.

Step Five

When group members have shared their designs with you, read them and make comments about what you think are good ideas and how their designs could be improved.

Step Six

Once you have commented on all group member's designs and everybody has commented on yours then it is time to decide, as a group, which designs you are going to make.  You may make a combination of designs or alter someone's design to improve it.

Step Seven

Individually write in your blog which design or combination of designs you have chosen and why and how environmentally friendly it is.

Step Eight

As a group, make your three marble runs using the designs you have all agreed on.

Step Nine

Individually write in your blog a reflection about the build.  What difficulties did you encounter?  What worked well? Have you had to adapt your design? How and why?  Was it environmentally friendly? Why?  If you did this challenge again, what would you do differently?

Step Ten

When you have finished building all your marble runs and blogging and have proof read all your work, you can go to the Finished page.
